Understanding the Differences Between Air-Filled and Vented CMC Dummies
When it comes to choosing the best dummy for your baby, the variety of options available can be overwhelming. One crucial distinction to understand is the difference between air-filled and vented dummies. Both types serve the essential purpose of soothing your baby, but they function in slightly different ways. Here, we’ll explore the differences between air-filled and vented CMC dummies and why we recommend starting with vented dummies for your little one.
Air-Filled Dummies
Air-filled dummies are made from a rubber teat and do not have any built-in ventilation holes, meaning no air will flow in and out of the teat. This design maintains the shape and firmness of the teat, which some babies may find comforting. Here are a few things to consider:
- Once Baby Has Teeth We Recommend A Vented Teat: Vented teats are more durable, distributing pressure evenly and withstanding bites & maintain their shape even after strong sucking from teething babies which is why once baby hits size 2 (6-18m) we recommend the vented teat.
- Less Flexibility: The firmness of air-filled dummies might not suit all babies, particularly those who prefer a softer, more pliable teat.
- 3. If Baby has any ties (tongue, lip), high palettes, issues latching or very fussy an air-filled teat is a great option for you to consider for your baby.
Vented Dummies
Vented dummies, on the other hand, feature small holes or ventilation systems that allow air to flow in and out. Here are some points to consider when choosing vented dummies:
- Flexibility and Comfort: Vented dummies tend to be softer and more flexible, making them ideal for babies who prefer a gentler touch.
- Vented dummies have a longer shelf life & can be stretched to the 6-8 weeks mark (if baby isn't sucking overly hard and you have other dummies on rotation) remember any signs of the teat swelling we recommend you replace your dummies. Guideline 4-6 weeks.
At CMC, we understand the importance of making informed decisions for your baby’s well-being. Our range of vented dummies is designed with your baby’s comfort in mind, ensuring a soothing and pleasant experience from the start. While air-filled dummies have their place and may be preferred by babies who have any ties, high palettes, issues latching or are super fussy, Vented Dummies offer a balanced option that caters to a general population.
Regardless of which dummy you choose you can rest assured that both dummies are proudly Australian Made, are 100% BPA, PVC & Phthalates free and have a 100% natural rubber teat. CMC Gold dummies have passed testing in accordance with AS 2432:2015 Australian standards. All Dummies have undergone the pull test where the teat has been pulled by machinery in all directions that far outweighs or exhibits the strength a baby or regular person has and has been inspected carefully. Prior to use parents are encourage to conduct their own pull tests and should replace the dummy at the first sign of damage or weakness. The replacement timeframe guidelines are 4-6 weeks.
Ensure that you clean your dummies regularly placing them in a cup of boiling water for 5 minutes and then remove an allow to air dry. The younger the child, the more important it is to clean more regularly to protect baby from bacteria and to maintain good dummy hygiene.
Choosing the right dummy for your baby is a parent's decision, and understanding the differences between air-filled and vented dummies can help you make an informed choice. No answer is right or wrong. Whatever soothes your baby and keeps Mum & Dad happy is the best option. While both types have their merits, our recommendation is starting with vented unless you encounter any issues listed above then air filled is a great option.
